Obstacles are spread across the Map, serving both as decorations and gameplay elements. Each obstacle has its own features; most of them are breakable and some explode. Certain obstacles you can even interact with, like the Control Panel and the Vault Door. Some Obstacles cannot occupy the same space as Players, while some Obstacles allow players to hide under them. Obstacles differ from Crates, as they do not drop loot unless they are a Cache.

Trivia[]
- Tables used to have items hidden under them. This was removed early in the game's development.
- However, in the saloon, the green bottle for the cellar code is under a table.
- While the tree leaves are translucent, the overlapping section of two leaf sections becomes nearly opaque, making it ideal for players to hide under like bushes, especially since doing this does not change their scope.
- As a general rule of thumb, metal obstacles such as silos, hedgehogs, or barrels will cause bullets to ricochet.
- In the Easter April Fools update, Egg-stravaganza, players were able to wear skins that disguised them into obstacles and crates. More skins were added for the Halloween update.
- Rarely, a Tree, Stone or a Barrel Cache can be found. These look just like normal but slightly darker and with a decal under it, and they drop loot when broken.
- Unlike most other objects, caches don't change on different events, making them very easy to spot.
- During the Snow-Covered Island event, tables would have 3 cookies and a small glass of milk on them, replacing the orange and the banana.
- Obstacles don’t drop loot but when you have the perk Scavenger or Master Scavenger, you can get loot from them.
- Despite the fact that Obstacles are not the same thing as Crates, the surviv.io Creator Kit puts both true obstacles and crates under the same heading, "Obstacles," for the purposes of condensation.
